Thomas J. Calvarese, 86, passed away on Thursday. Tom was loved by all. He was a proud Navy Veteran who retired from AT&T. Tom loved the outdoors, SU sports, and most of all, spending time with his family. He was a communicant of St. Stephen’s in Phoenix. He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas & Angelina; brother, Frank; sister, Josephine; infant son, Thomas; and brother-in-law, John Boyle.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marianne Calvarese; children, Wendy Daniels, Melissa (Daniel) Swistak, Amy Dunn, Mollie (Robert) LaPine, Edward (Janet) Calvarese, Christopher (Shannon) Calvarese; grandchildren, Zachary (Maggie), Ryan (Catt), MaryCaitlin, Kailey, Benjamin, Kyle, Thomas, Jack, Cole, Maggie, Lindsey, Riley, Emily, Anthony, Jerrett; and great-grandchildren, Makennah, Madilyn, Jacob, Scarlett, Zoe.

Calling hours will be held Sunday evening, 4 - 7 PM, at Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, 9:30 AM, at St. Stephen’s Church, 469 Main St., Phoenix, NY. Burial will take place in spring.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to North Shore Food Pantry, PO Box 165, Cleveland, NY 13042 or Pennellville Fire Department, 3 Godfrey Rd., Pennellville, NY 13132.

I never knew Tom but I have known the family and respect all of you. Please accept my sentiments to all of you, especially Melissa. Prior engagements will prevent me from being at the calling hours so please understand my thoughts and prayers will be with you all. God speed.

There is no better, warmer more devoted family than the one created by this man. He never lost focus of what was important and that was his family. Tom was kind, funny, serious and quick witted. He was sensitive and devoted. In short there never will be enough adjectives to describe him. The loss of his physical presence is so painful. The joy of having known him is his legacy.
