Obituary for Willis Edward Van Volkenburgh

Willis Edward Van Volkenburgh, Jr., 72 of County Rt. 12, Pennellville, died at the V.A. Medical Center, Syracuse, NY on Saturday February 11, 2012. He was born to his late parents, Helen (Hardter) and Willis Edward Van Volkenburgh, Sr., on May 24, 1939. Willis served in the US Navy from 1963 to 1965, serving on the USS Boston. He later worked for Cooper Industries, Co., Crouse-Hinds Div., Syracuse for 30 years, retiring in 2000. He was predeceased by his wife the former Katherine M. Makowski, on November 14, 2001. Surviving are his daughter, Deborah L. (Richard) Young of Central Square; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Joyce) Van Volkenburgh of Clay, one sister, Irene Stranton of Syracuse; nieces and nephews. Calling hours are on Thursday from 5 to 7 pm in the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix,NY 13135. Graveside services are on Friday at 10 am,with Navy honors in Pine Plains Cemetery, 8686 Henry Clay Blvd., Clay, NY 13041. The Rev. Diane Bradshaw will officiate.
