Obituary for Shirley Eleanor DeVita

Shirley Eleanor DeVita, 86, of Phoenix, NY, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, Syracuse on Monday April 1, 2013. Born on Nov. 22, 1926, to her late parents, Gladys (Townsend) and Harry Williams in Phoenix, NY. Shirley was a homemaker and was employed by Phoenix Central Schools for many years. She enjoyed going to the casinos, and played Bunco with her friends. Shirley was an avid bowler too. She was predeceased by her daughter, Doreen, Gardner, her son-in-law, Dana P. Gardner, and her granddaughter, Donja L. Gardner in 1980; and her sisters and brothers.


Surviving are her loving husband of 67 years, Neil A. DeVita, Sr.; her son and his companion, Neil A. DeVita, Jr. and Karen Rupe of Fulton; two grand children, Angela DeVita and Nathaniel DeVita; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.


Per Shirley’s wishes, there were no calling hours or funeral service. She was buried in Chase Cemetery, Lysander. Contributions in her memory to: Phoenix United Methodist Church, 49 Jefferson St., Phoenix, NY 13135. Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, Phoenix had charge of arrangements.
