Robert “Bob” Peter Grenyo passed away at the age of 72 on June 30, 2021 after a courageous battle with metastatic lung cancer. Bob was born on June 9, 1949 in Yonkers, NY to parents Josephine and Peter Grenyo.
Bob attended St. Casimir Catholic School for grades K-8. He graduated from Manhattan College High School in 1967. Bob continued his education at Manhattan College for the next two years where he majored in chemistry. From 1969-1971 he attended the RCA Institute for Electronics Technology. Bob then attended the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn from 1971-1973 where he received a BSEE in Electrical Engineering.
Bob’s first job was at Corning Glass Works from June 1973-September 1974. He was then employed by Alcan (now Novelis) in Oswego until August 1977. He left Alcan to go on an adventure and tour the country until March of 1978. With his wanderlust satisfied, Bob returned to work at Modicon in Boston as an applications engineer for programmable controllers from March 1978- August 1979. Alcan then recruited Bob to return to their employ, where he remained until October of 1995. Bob became employed at Black Clawson in Fulton in March of 1996. Following that he worked at Lockheed Martin in Liverpool until he retired in August of 2011. Bob could fix just about anything as those who knew him well can attest to.
On January 1, 1988 Bob married Susan Mills Pelkey. Together they raised two beautiful daughters; Elaina Pelkey Renfrew and Tiffany Pelkey Zacholl. Bob was dedicated to his family and they were the most important thing to him. Bob was also a member of the Syracuse Pistol club and a long time ham radio enthusiast.
Bob is survived by his wife Susan; his daughter Tiffany Zacholl (Sean Dolan); son in law Keith Renfrew; five grandchildren- Aubrianna, Keaton and Mason Renfrew and Julian and Sam Zacholl. He was predeceased by his daughter Elaina Renfrew and his parents Josephine and Peter Grenyo.
Calling hours will be Monday, July 12th, from 4-6pm with a funeral immediately following at the Allanson- Glanville- Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main street, Phoenix, NY. A gathering in Bob’s honor will be held after the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse NY 13208.
