Obituary for Patricia Jean Beattie (Miller)

Patricia J. (Miller) Beattie passed away the morning of February 2, 2021 at St. Luke Health center in Oswego, NY., where she had recently become a resident. Born in Brookville, PA on January 6, 1933 to Robert P. Miller and Dorothy M. (Cyphert) Miller, she was the middle child of 5 siblings, where she often tagged along with her older sisters on walks to the corner ice cream parlor (also her favorite first job) or to the dam during summers for a swim. She was valedictorian of her high school class and began a short (weeks) nursing career that was interrupted by the love of her life Charles who swept her off her feet and they were married by a Presbyterian minister in Winchester, VA on Feb. 3, 1951. Virginia was their destination because Charles, freshly re-activated in the U.S. Army to help fight the Korean war, was supposed to board a ship and head out, but at the last minute, President Eisenhower released all WW2 Veterans from Korean war duty and the happy couple soon returned to Brookville to begin civilian life. A move to Fulton, NY in 1953 settled her family (soon to be four in number) into a 68 year residency that brought her a full and rewarding life. Graduation from Oswego College in 1969 was followed by a career as a middle school math teacher in Phoenix NY. Retirement found her, usually accompanied by her sister Gladys, volunteering at her lifelong church, State Street Methodist in Fulton, and even sometimes at the local casino where they enjoyed (usually losing) a small wager or two together.

Pat was pre-deceased by her parents, husband Charles in 2019, sister Helen, brother Robert, grand-daughter Megan and daughter in-law Patty.

She is survived by her sister Gladys, brother James, sons Carl and Robert (Cricket), grand-sons Christopher, Blake, Jack (Laura) and Matt, grand-daughter Kristin (Tom), four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. We will all miss “Gramma” and we cherish our time spent with her, sad that it has ended. We will always love you Patricia, may you rest in peace.

Due to the times, the family has chosen a small service to happen when Pat is interred next to Charles in Pine Plains cemetery, Clay, NY this spring, date pending.
