Norene Ellen Avery, 76, of Phoenix, NY passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse on Thursday February 23,2012.  She was a life resident of Oswego County.  Born in Fulton to her late parents, Zirita (Bloodgood) and Forrest E.Meeks, she was a graduate of Mexico Academy, Class of 1953.  Norene was a former beauty pageant winner and later a breast cancer survivor.  She was a fine homemaker and a longtime caregiver for family members.  Predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Charles Alfred Avery  on May 5, 2011, a sister, Donna Abulencia.  Surviving are her four sons and their spouses, Charles Forrest and Audrey Avery of Fulton,  Steven Michael and Patricia Avery of Pennellville, Philip John and Veronica Avery of PhoenixThomas Shawn and Julie Avery of North Syracuse; one daughter and her husband, Kathleen Ann and James Jordan of Hannibal; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Forrest  E. (Karen) Meeks, Richard  A. (Debra)Meeks, and Daniel J.  Meeks; one sister, Sherry A. (Thomas)Greer; numerous nieces and nephews.


Services are at 3 p.m. on Tuesday February 28, at Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, Phoenix, with the Rev. David C. Nethercott officiating.  Burial will be in Jacksonville Cemetery, 9250 Fenner Road, Town of Lysander.  Calling hours are 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service, in the funeral home 431 Main St..
