Obituary for Lucy J. Oakes (Woolley)

Lucy J. Oakes, 79, of Pennellville, passed away on Saturday at her home, surrounded by family. She was a bus driver for the Phoenix Central School District for many years before becoming a Lease Termination Officer for Ford Credit in E Syracuse, NY. Lucy was transferred to the Tampa, FL office in 2000 before retiring in 2004. Relocating to Leesburg, FL in 2008 to the Mid-Florida Lakes Community, she enjoyed travel, activities and many close friendships. Lucy also enjoyed helping those in need and volunteered at Christmas time as a 'Grandma for a Day' to children in need and was active with the 'Silver Threads' sewing club to provide handmade clothing for hospital-bound children. She was an avid crafter and loved games and other thought provoking activities including: Sudoku, Crocheting, MahJong, and various card games. Lucy hosted a ceramics class for many years at her home in Pennellville where she had her own kiln. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Ralph W. Oakes, in 2013; as well as her brothers, David Woolley and Richard Woolley, Sr.

She is survived by her sons, Bruce (Irene) Jones II and Michael P. (Lindsay) Warren; grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Wright, Bruce (Tiffany) Jones III, Jessica (Sebastian) Czyz, and Michael I. Warren; and great-granddaughters, McKenzie & Kailey Wright.

Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2 PM - 4 PM, at A-G Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St, Phoenix, NY.
