Obituary for Leah May Michels-Hollingsworth

Leah May Michels-Hollingsworth, 91, a former Phoenix, NY resident, passed away in New London, Wisconsin on October 18, 2011. She was born to her late parents, Ruth (Lewis) and John W. Oakes. Leah was a graduate of Syracuse University, Class of 1940. She was a life member of the Phoenix Fire Dept., Auxiliary; served two terms as a board member for Phoenix Central Schools; was the secretary of the Eastern Star Chapter 172, Phoenix; and a volunteer at Community General Hospital, Town of Onondaga. Mrs. Hollingsworth was predeceased by her two husbands, Edward J. “Ted” Michels and Robert B. Hollingsworth.


Surviving are her two sons, Edward J. Michels of Clearwater, FL, and John Lee Michels of New London, WI; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.


Services are on two separate days, a graveside ceremony will be at 4 p.m. on Friday May 25, 2012 in Jacksonville Cemetery, 9250 Fenner Road, Lysander, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday May 27, in the Phoenix United Methodist Church, 49 Jefferson St., Phoenix, NY 13135. The Rev. Joseph Kim will be officiating. Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Homes, Inc., Phoenix, NY has local arrangements.
