Joyce E. Godfrey, 87, of Pennellville, NY, passed away
peacefully on Wednesday November 8, 2017 surrounded
by her loving family. Born in Phoenix, NY to her late parents,
Julia Olive (Teachout) and Asa G. Candee on Dec. 14, 1929.
She grew up in Pennellville, NY and is a graduate of Phoenix
High School, class of 1948. She was employed by Miller
Brewing Co., Volney, NY.
Joyce was an active member of Pennellville United Methodist
Church, serving as Trustee, Merry’s Stitchers, and other
church activities. Among many other interests, Joyce
was a member of the Red Hat Society. Most importantly,
she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Predeceased by her son James in 2017; her brothers Lynn,
Wilson, and Milton.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, John
C. Godfrey; her son David Godfrey (Marianne Gillette);
her daughter Karen (Henry) Fuller all of Pennellville; her
grandchildren Dana Godfrey (Matthew Brophy), Gregory
Reynolds (Danielle Szulanski), Daimon (Valarie)
Oberholtzer, and Danielle Oberholtzer; three great-grand
children; her daughter-in-law Tonya Godfrey of Tully; her
brother Irving Candee of Baldwinsville; her sister Marjorie
(Bill) Godfrey of Pennellville; several nieces, nephews,
and cousins.
Calling hours are on Monday Nov. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. at
the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main
St., Phoenix, NY. A Funeral Service in celebration of Joyce’s
life will be held on Tuesday Nov. 14, at 12 noon in the
Pennellville United Methodist Church, 385 Co. Rt. 54,
Pennellville, with the Rev. Jeff Hodge officiating. Burial
to follow in Pennellville Cemetery on Co. Rt. 54, Pennellville.
