Obituary for Jean S. LaFave

Jean S. LaFave, 76, of Liverpool, passed away at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany on Saturday, April 28, 2012. Born in Gouverneur, raised in Oswegatchie, to her late parents, Ailsa Erline (Harrington) and Hollis Llewelyn Scruton on October 16, 1935. Attended school in Clifton Fine, a graduate of S.U.N.Y. Canton. Jean was a Teacher’s Aide at E.J. Dillon Jr. High School, Phoenix, NY; a member of the First Congregational UCC, and its Dorcas Circle; served as Matron and Secretary in the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 172, Phoenix, Junior Deputy of Triangle Girls, DDGM in 1983, Grand Chaplain in 1999; a volunteer at the Eastern Star Home; a member of the Phoenix Topics Club. Surviving are her loving husband of 57 years, Earl B. LaFave; four sons, Keith (Sylvia) LaFave of Lake St. Louis, MO, Kevin (Michelle) LaFave of Baldwinsville, David LaFave of CO, Daniel LaFave of Mexico; one daughter, Darleen (Michael) Ballou of Palermo; one sister, Joanne LeRoux; two brothers, Ivan and Bill Scruton; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services are on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational, UCC, 43 Bridge St., Phoenix, NY 13135. Burial in Phoenix Rural Cemetery, 126 Chestnut St..


Calling hours are on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a OES prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix.
