Obituary for Jack I. Thompson

Jack I. Thompson, 73, of Phoenix, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday October 1, 2012. Born in Phoenix, to his late parents, Anne F. (Egan) and George B. Thompson on September 24, 1939. A USAF veteran from 1957-1961. A professional truck driver, he drove for Marsellus Casket Co. for 15 years. Prior employment included a snowplow driver for the Town of Schroeppel Highway Dept.. Jack served as a captain and held the office of president for the Phoenix Fire Department. He enjoyed over 52 years of loyal service to his community. A social member of the VFW Post 5540, Phoenix; a member of the Syracuse Hog Chapter; the Star Motor cylcle Club; and the Upstate Cruise Motorcycle Club. Jack was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Karen (Fryer) Thompson February 8, 2003; his son Shaun I. Thompson in 1999; his brother, Gerald R. Thompson in 2005. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Dean E. and Andria Thompson of Clay; another daug ter-in-law, Diane Thompson of Central Square; four grandchildren, Kyle, Allyson, Chad, and Brandon; a sister, Kathy Thompson Watson of Charleston, SC; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services are on Saturday October 13, 2012 at 3 p.m. in the Phoenix Fire Station, 457 Main St., Phoenix, 13135. Burial with firefighter and military honors to follow in the Phoenix Rural Cemetery, Cemetery 126 Chestnut St.. Calling hours are in the fire Station the same day, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m..
