Obituary for Gloria B. Luebberman (Breton)
A page was turned in a wonderful love story with the passing of Glori B Luebberman on August 19, 2021 when she died peacefully at Summerhill Assisted Living with husband Tom and family close by her side.
Glori B was raised in Waterville, ME and attended local schools there. Her career as a professional guitarist and singer brought her to Boston, MA where she met her future husband, soul mate and life partner Tom Luebberman while singing at the Red Coach Grill in Saugus, MA. It was her first evening after being hired and the first time Tom stopped in. After spending a decade in Carlisle, MA, Glori B and Tom moved to Peterborough in the early 80s and raised their family.
Glori B filled her space on earth with joy, laughter and music which she brought to thousands of people. She worked at the Peterborough Recreation Department for more than 20 years, teaching people to play the guitar, sometimes two generations of the same family. While at the Peterborough Recreational Department, Glori B instituted a "Theater for Young Performers" and instructed many young people in acting, theater and putting on plays.
She visited every nursing home in the area, where she played guitar and sang to delight of the residents. With a repertoire of over 800 memorize songs, including English, French and Spanish, her music spoke to everyone. She was often accompanied by her little dog "Terri-Poo" who also sang to everyone’s further delight. Tom carried her guitar.
In addition to her music, Glori B loved outdoor activities including boating, hiking, biking and spending time at her and Tom’s favorite vacation spots in Ocean Park, Maine and Bermuda where they vacationed at for over 40 years.
Glori B and Tom continued "formal date" nights every week during their loving marriage. These date nights might include a play or some other form of theater; that’s if Glori B wasn’t performing in the play (as she often did). One of her favorite roles was playing Annie Oakley in a local production of "Annie Get Your Gun"- Tom landed a small, forgettable role in the production so he could be near her. She also loved her collection of hundreds of puppets and performed puppet shows for the children at the library.
If you knew Glori B, you knew her love of life and for all those around her. She lived to entertain and bring joy to others through her many talents and always did it while wearing purple. Glori B was often referred to in Peterborough as the “Purple Lady”.
In addition to her husband of nearly 50 years, Tom Luebberman, Glori B is survived by her son David Luebberman, his wife Ericka, and their daughter Megan; her daughter Lori Ames and her daughter Makenna Ames; her brothers Roland Breton (Jeanette) and Jerome Brenton (Toni) as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tom would like to thank the staff at Summerhill where she received loving care during her illness.
At Tom’s request, there are no services. Interment was at Phoenix Rural Cemetery in Phoenix, NY where Tom’s ancestors are buried and a place where Tom’s grandmother took him and childhood friends where they often played and picnicked.
