Doris Marie Floch, 85, former Phoenix, NY, passed away on Wednesday August 10, 2016
at the Van Duyn Home, town of Onondaga after a recent admission. Doris resided for several
years at Buckley Landing, in N. Syracuse. The family would like to express our gratitude
to the staff at Buckley Landing for their care given to our mother.
Doris had many fond memories of growing up in Brooklyn. She loved going to the Brooklyn
Dodger games with her father, William Burkle. She enrolled into college at Oswego State
College, where she met her future husband Henri, who also was from Brooklyn.
After she graduated from college it was off to California with her girlfriends, but later
returned and married Henri in 1954. They raised three daughters, and a number of pets with
a special fondness for Missy, Ruby, Allie, Cupcake, and Wiley.
Mom was an elementary school teacher at Phoenix Central Schools. Later she was a
saleswoman for Sears and Roebuck Co.. Doris was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels
for over 30 years. She like to play Bridge with her long time friends Rita, Joanne, and Ellie.
As a mom, she sewed many Halloween costumes, baked the best gingerbread cookies
for Christmas. Mom encouraged her daughters to follow their dreams.
Mom and Dad would pack up the car and trailer for month long adventures to Canada,
Maine and taken a visit with grandparents in Massachusetts. During their retirement years
they ventured off to Hawaii, Florida, Arizona. But Lake Ontario was where you’d find them
most summers reading and napping, walking along the beach and watching sunsets over
the lake at days end.
