Obituary for Donald Joseph Bell Jr.

Donald Joseph Bell, Jr., 84, of Pennellville, NY, passed away at Iroquois Nursing Home, Onondaga, after a brief stay. Born in the town of Schroeppel, Pennellville, on September 6, 1937 to his late parents, Elizabeth Cecelia (Cirbus) Bell and Donald Joseph Bell, Sr.. Don was a 1956 graduate of the J. C. Birdlebough High School, Phoenix, NY. He served in the USAF, activated to serve during the Cold War incident, the Berlin Crisis of 1961, where his specialty was radio maintenance. For a number of years Don was a BSA Troop Leader in Pennellville.

Don never found a reason not to get up in the morning. He never fully retired from any work what so ever. Early on, he worked for Henderson Dairy, W. Phoenix as a route man and assisted in processing dairy products; General Electric Co. Liverpool, as a wire assemblyman; then co-owner operator of Don and Ray's automotive service center in Phoenix, NY with his brother-in-law, Ray Russell, and eventually Willson & Bell Service Center, Inc. lasting from Nov. of 1972 until March of 1982. In May of 1982 Don went to work for the Borden Co, Inc., Syracuse, NY until May of 1996. He was currently working for Liberty Fuels Co., Camden in their coin-operated Laundromat business as an engineer/mechanic. Some of his attributes included: licensed fork lift truck operator; NYS license to receive and unload tank trucks; Automotive repairs and former NYS registered repair shop.


Don was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed pistol shooting, and loved camping.

Besides his parents, his father in 1989, his mother in 2002; he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Frederick C. Bell in 1969, Warner Edward Bell in 2010, two brother-in-laws, Raymond Russell in 2013, and Ronald A. Jones in 2021, two nephews, David and Douglas Russell.

Surviving are two sisters, Margery J. Russell of Holly Hill, FL, and Patricia A. Jones of Warners, NY; three nieces, Deanna Russell, Krista Bell Jones, and Susan (Sam) Pitcher, two nephews, Michael Jones, and Ryan Bell; his business partner and close friend, Steve (Leita) Willson and their children, Joshua, Amanda, and Alison.


To honor the final wishes of Donald, there will be no calling hours or services.
