He graduated from Fayetteville-Manlius High School in 1974 and went on to earn a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Clarkson University in 1990. Dan enjoyed a decades-long career as a licensed professional engineer, and worked at Prudent Engineering in East Syracuse for 18 years, most recently as Managing Design Engineer.

Dan was highly active in his community. He frequently engaged in volunteering: He was advancement chair in his sons’ Boy Scout troop, Troop 80, and a member of the Catholic Committee on Scouting. Dan also volunteered for his children’s soccer, basketball, softball, and volleyball teams. A devout convert to Catholicism, Dan was always ready to share his faith. He attended the parishes of Holy Trinity in Fulton and St. Stephen’s in Phoenix, and often helped out with parish events.

Dan was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and hiking. He led many family outings and vacations, always eager to point out concrete structures along the way. He was a lifelong football fan; as a young man, Dan played on a Manlius community flag football team, the Buffoons. Dan is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nancy Serrao Huffaker; their four children, Christina Huffaker (Anders) Swendsrud, Thomas Huffaker, Michelle Huffaker, and Stephen Huffaker; his four siblings, David (Cheryl) Huffaker, Ruth (F. Gerald) Borsh, John (Connie) Huffaker, and Bruce (Lorraine) Huffaker; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
