Obituary for Carol Susan Rule (Vrooman)

Carol Susan (Vrooman) Rule, 77, former Phoenix, NY resident, passed away on Sunday May 29, 2016.  Born in Syracuse, NY to her late parents, Olive (Fellows) and Sydney Vrooman on December 11, 1938.  A graduate of Blodgett Vocational High School,  Syracuse.  She was a member of the Syracuse Youth Orchestra, played the violin, and  was also was a talented singer.  Married in 1956 to Gregory, she became a fine wife, loving  and nurturing mother and grandmother, always put others before herself.  She shared her musician skills and other interests with her family, and loved to entertain people.


In earlier years, Carol was the Fuller Brush Co. saleslady.   She often loaded her children into her car to make deliveries to homes for the prior purchases made by  her clients. She was known also known as the “singing waitress” at the Clay Hotel.  Carol was a coin collector and loved country music.  Later she worked as a cook for the Lincoln Elms, Inc. residential home in Syracuse.


A parishonier at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Phoenix, since moving here in 1964.


She was predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, Gregory John Rule on Aug. 29, 2003.


Surviving are her four children and their spouses, Dianna and John McDonough of Liverpool, Christine and William Barden of Central Square, Joseph and Constance Rule of Phoenix and Robert and Michele Rule of Crestview, Fla.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Holly Ann Voorman of Syracuse and Joy Cheryl and Michael Okun of North Syracuse; three brothers, Stephen Vrooman of DeLond, Fla., Peter Christian and Beth Vrooman of Dayton, Ohio and Lynn Daryl and Patricia Vrooman of Runnymead, NJ; several nieces, nephews and friends.


Calling hours are on Wednesday June 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan

Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix, NY.  On Thursday June 2, a church mass for Carol will be at 9:30 a.m. in Saint Stephen’s Church, 469 Main St., Phoenix, with the Rev.


Philip Brockmyre officiating.
