Obituary

Alberta Ruth Carpenter, 90, of Phoenix, passed away on Sunday evening with family by her side. She valued her family, friends, and faith, and invested deeply in her relationships. Over the years many family gatherings were hosted at “The Big House” during holidays and special occasions. Alberta loved to sew and was an avid quilter. She took pride in making clothing for her children and quilts for various friends, family members, and those in her community. Alberta gave of herself and her resources generously to the needs of the world around her and she was always looking for a chance to make a difference. She was a long-standing member of Little Utica Methodist Church, where she and her husband were married, and in recent years began regularly attending at North Central Assembly of God. Alberta was predeceased by her husband, Carl, in 2008; brother, Bruce Bennett; and son-in-law, John Campfield.

She is survived by her children, David (Lydia) Carpenter, Carole Carpenter, Jayne Coffey, Michael LaMountain, Susan (Rob) Badore, and Gregg (Karen) Carpenter; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Luke and Christine (Ray) Bassett; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling Hours will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 10 AM - 12 PM, at North Central Assembly of God, 7463 Buckley Rd., Syracuse, NY 13212. Funeral service will follow at 12 PM. Burial in Jacksonville Rural Cemetery, Phoenix, NY.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Building Fund for Kids Central at North Central Assembly of God.

I truly enjoyed my time spent with Alberta.. I was a substitute care giver when my sister Mary wasn’t able to bring her to church or Wegmans. We had nice chats. God Bless her and thoughts and prayers to all family and friends..

Alberta meant 'Welcome Home'. Whenever I visited my Mom (Jean Knobloch), together with Carl (Mom's 1st cousin) our times at their Phoenix home was always an entertainment of family memories. Alberta was a wonderful host including a birthday cake for Mom's 83rd. Carl and Mom passed away within a year of each other, but my visits continued. Her absence now takes away the last links to memories of parents and grand parents that only she and I could share. I feel so fortunate for her friendship and grateful to have had one of the few remaining places in upstate that I could feel at home. Her family was what she cared for the most as she looked upon them as her enduring legacy of strength and love. My sympathy to all in coming together in each others support.
